The CVS logs today were impressive. Amazing what a dozen guys in a log cabin can do :-)

Apparently there is yet another fork of khtml, the viewml project. Luckily, it's not nearly as destructive as the gtkhtml one was, but it would be cool if these could just be avoided :-P

I'm getting involved in a large thread in gnu.misc.discuss.

It is, in a way, funny. The usual clueless keyword droppers are there (jedi, for example), but also some smart guys (Dyson).

The short version is that apparently Dyson and a couple of others made a rather thought provoking statement: "The GPL is not free", and are defending it.

The usual wisdom about it is that such a position is indefensible, yet IMHO they are doing just fine.

I just snip from the sidelines pointing out the internal inconsistencies between people who sustain the opposing position (that the GPL is actually free).

I got several interesting responses, like "of course the GPL doesn't prevent linking GPL and non-GPL software".

Strangely, as soon as I point out that the FSF says it does, a couple of posters fall off the subthread, and get replaced by a couple of new posters saying that it does.

Then I point ways in which that position makes the GPL non-free, and the reverse happens :-)

So, my personal guess is that it's impossible for a single person to maintain both halves of that position at the same time without internal conflict.

Ok, now I know the difference between brazilians and the rest of us.

When they say "tristeza não tem fin", they actually are surprised.

Man, am I blue lately. It rains, it's cold, it's overcast, and I'm lonely. I should get a cat. Oops, I have one already.

So, there IS a regex-building widget for KDE2, and it's a damn powerful one :-)

That means my maildrop frontend is trivial, and that's good.

I'm finally making progress in my library to store email. It's looking VERY good.

In fact, I'm thinking that combining this with KDE's IO stuff can make for a very interesting paradigm of information storage, which would be fairly radical. I need to think some more.

I gave a small (what's it called? seminar? lecture? conference? chat?) at UB (University Belgrano) last night.

While attendance was not impressive (25 people or so), it went rather well.

Well, this should be yesterday's entry.

I've started work on a frontend for maildrop. The state of mail filtering in linux today is kinda shameful.

The default software for this is procmail, which is IMHO not very well done.

So, perhaps if I put some added value in maildrop, people will drop procmail ;-)

Committed stuff in KDE's CVS after a loooong time.

Make KFTE work again on KDE2, and made it a (very stupid) KPart.

Today, KRN :-)

Official excuses for not posting diary entries:

a) My life is a mess. Nothing terrible, but pretty confusing.

b) I'm working long hours. Not longer than usual, but long.

c) I'm taking quick trips for family issues whenever I have 24 hours available, so I'm tired as a dog.

So, there.
