The CIPE article was accepted by linuxtoday, and it got some readership. So far, the comments are good.

And both the CIPE and Squid/POP ar­ti­cles got men­tioned by open­net.ru. There is a com­ment in the Squid one. I can on­ly un­der­stand LDAP in it, even af­ter ba­belfish­ing it. Hope­ful­ly it does­n't say "Y­ou should use LDAP, doo­fus", be­cause I know it's most­ly true ;-)

Well, no, it doesn't say you should use LDAP :-/, it says (basically) that the author would like to know how to use LDAP. Actually, it seems to me the author of the comment didn't bother to think of how to adapt the example to LDAP...

Later on in the thread, BSW pointed this out to Nikolaev_D. Then he suggested using Squid 2.5 (not 2.4), it being more featureful in access control.

Yes, also Squid 3 should solve another of the issues described, because you can use an encrypted link, and the password won't go in cleartext.
